Larissa Tiedens

Lara Tiedens is a social psychologist and organizational scholar. Her research explores the psychological dynamics that produce and maintain interpersonal social hierarchies, the manner in which emotions influence and are influenced by social roles, and the effects of emotions on decision-making. Most recently, in work that bridges behavioral science with emerging technology she has been investigating AI's capacity to diagnose social relationships and group dynamics. Her research has been published in leading journals including The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology (where she also served as an Associate Editor), Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Administrative Science Quarterly. She co-edited The Social Life of Emotions (Cambridge University Press).  She was as a CASBS Fellow in 2008-2009 and was the interim director of CASBS in 2025-26. She is a CASBS distinguished fellow in 2026-27. 

In addition to her scholarly career, Tiedens has extensive leadership experience in higher education and research institutions. She served as senior associate dean at Stanford Graduate School of Business (where she was also a faculty member for 18 years), president of Scripps College, and executive director of Schwarzman Scholars. Tiedens joined the CASBS Board in 2023 and serves as co-chair of the development committee. Her additional board experience includes The Center for Creative Leadership, AlixPartners, IES Abroad, and the Webb Schools.
