Heeju Sohn

During the fellowship at CASBS, Heeju Sohn will develop models that can analyze, compare, and track multigenerational kin networks across geographic space to examine the intersection of kin support, safety-net programs, and environmental/climate-related disasters in the United States. Through this project, Sohn aims to develop a methodological framework that can be broadly applied to study and predict resource flows and population movements in response to political, economic, and environmental events.

Sohn is a demographer and an associate professor of sociology at Emory University. Her past work adapted formal demographic techniques—originally used in contexts with limited data—to reconstruct dynamic kin networks using publicly available data. Her research has been funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
