Kepa Korta

During his year at CASBS, Kepa Korta will work toward a book provisionally titled The Linguistic Wealth of Nations. The book will offer an empirically informed philosophical study of linguistic injustice, organized around three fundamental dimensions: (1) the metaphysics of nations and the role of language in their identities; (2) the philosophical, historical, and legal justifications for individual and collective linguistic rights; and (3) two related tensions: first, between the one language–one nation–one state triad and the existence of plurilingual (and plurinational) nations; and second, between hegemonic languages and nations, on one side, and endangered languages and nations, on the other.

Korta is professor of logic and philosophy of science at the University of the Basque Country. His previous work spans the philosophy of language, philosophy of action, and philosophy of art. His most recent book, co-authored with María de Ponte and John Perry, is Three Demonstrations and a Funeral and Other Essays (CSLI, 2025), a collection of essays on Critical Pragmatics. Korta’s background in the philosophy of language, pragmatics, and collective action informs his current investigation into linguistic justice.
